Check if you are eligible for exchange

Consider going on exchange early in your degree as this generally provides the most flexibility and more opportunities.

Student Exchange Eligibility

You can apply for a semester exchange program in your first semester of your first year of study.

To commence a semester exchange placement, you must be at least in your first semester of your second year (this can be negotiated if you wish to study at another Curtin campus).

To apply for a semester exchange program you must be able to meet the following requirements upon assessment of your application:

  • be enrolled in at least 100 credits;
  • be admitted in a coursework degree at a Curtin campus* (you can apply while on an approved Leave of Absence, but must be enrolled prior to departure);
  • have a course weighted average (CWA) of 60 or above in your current course of study (some partner universities may require a higher CWA);
  • have an academic status of ‘Good Standing’ with no academic misconduct (where a student’s academic status is changed to Conditional Status or deemed to be unsatisfactory in the academic period immediately prior to departure, participation will be subject to approval in consultation with the relevant course coordinator. Any expense incurred due to cancellation will be met by the student);
  • be able to maintain full-time enrolment and attendance at the partner university;
  • have completed an approved Study Plan Proposal form;
  • agree to abide by the semester exchange program Conditions of Participation;
  • be at least 18 years of age by the official start date of the exchange program at the host institution.

If you don’t meet the eligibility requirements, you may have your application assessed on a case-by-case basis based on circumstance and merit. Additional documentation, including an Academic Reference may be requested to support your application.

Eligibility criteria for the OS Help Loan requires you to have completed at least 200 credits in your course of study before you depart and at least 25 credits remaining on your Study Plan to complete post exchange.
