Diploma of Instrumentation and Control Engineering
Course Code: UEE51010
Course approval code: F1-K50
Course Description
This Diploma of Instrumentation and Control Engineering
has been designed to provide students with the skills and
knowledge required to install, set up, test, develop, select,
commission, maintain and diagnose faults/malfunctions of
equipment and systems for the measurement, recording,
monitoring and control of physical/chemical phenomenon
and related process control systems.
Course Outcomes
This program will enable the students to gain skills and
knowledge in occupational health and safety, teamwork,
technical drawing, scheduling, specification and report
writing, research and instrumentation and electrical
installations and systems.
Because the Diploma of Instrumentation and Control
Engineering prepares students for self-directed application
of skills and knowledge, based on elementary principles
and/or multifaceted procedures, they will be equipped with
the competence to demonstrate initiative and decision
making across an extensive scope of technical and/or
management roles.
Career in the Instrumentation Industry
A career in Instrumentation provides outstanding
remuneration and attractive employability pathway
prospects. If you’d like to work as an instrumentation
technician, you may do so in a variety of industries.
Instrumentation technicians work in chemical plants,
petroleum refineries, canneries and food processing plants
and other businesses that control and monitor air and
water pollution. These industries require extremely precise
measuring and monitoring equipment to regulate flow and
pressure rates, keep track of production, manage power use
and ensure safety. An Instrumentation Technician conducts
tests on systems, in support of Engineers
and Engineering Technologists.
Study Modes and Recognition
The Diploma is delivered over two-years full-time or
equivalent part-time study at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia.
Applications for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) are
assessed on an individual basis.
This programme is designed for students who have completed at least five years of secondary school education, sat for the Malaysian SPM examination (equivalent to Year 11 or GCE "O" Level) and obtained credit in three academic subjects including at least C6 in SPM English and Mathematics. Students with polytechnic qualification (two years post form five) are eligible to apply.
