Course approval code: KP/JPS(KA4658) 07/09
Through the conduct of a supervised research project, this research course develops the ability of a suitably qualified candidate to contribute to the knowledge and practice of engineering. At the completion of the assigned project, the candidate submits a written thesis presenting the results of the work and discussing its significance for the pertinent field of engineering. The thesis is examined according to the University's Regulation for the Degree of Master (by research).
Course OrganisationThe course is by research and the Masters normally requires a minimum one year of full-time study. The topic for the research project is assigned to the candidate after consultation with the Director of the School of Engineering and Science and with the thesis supervisor. The student then applies for candidacy. Students who are required to undertake a qualifying program enrol in one or both qualifying program units and undertake a specified program of study. On successful completion, students will qualify to proceed with the formal Masters program. Failure to attain a satisfactory standard in the qualifying units will render a student ineligible for re-enrolment in the Masters program.
Course Entry RequirementsApplications from well-qualified graduates able to present acceptable evidence of their ability to undertake research projects will be considered. Admission may be subject to successful completion of a prescribed qualifying program or having worked as an engineer for a number of years.
