Introduction
Computer science (CS) is focused on the foundations of modern computing, with the aim of producing
graduates who have a high level understanding of computers systems, in general, and the processes
involved in software construction and analysis, in particular. Curtin's course in Computer Science
teaches programming right from the first year with a strong emphasis on object-oriented development.
The course also covers algorithm analysis, artificial intelligence, computer communications,
software engineering, compilers, programming language design, operating systems, databases and
computer graphics. The use of open source applications is strongly encouraged
within the department
with a lab dedicated to Linux-enabled computers.
Professional Recognition
Professional accreditation has been granted by the Australian Computer Society.
Career Opportunities for Computer Scientists

graduates in computer science. Opportunities exist throughout the world, in different domains ranging
from desktop applications, gaming and distributed computing to specialized applications in the field
of consumer electronics, automobiles, and medicine. Curtin graduates are employed as specialists
in industry, research organizations and government departments.
