  • Introduction

    Computer science (CS) is focused on the foundations of modern computing, with the aim of producing graduates who have a high level understanding of computers systems, in general, and the processes involved in software construction and analysis, in particular. Curtin's course in Computer Science teaches programming right from the first year with a strong emphasis on object-oriented development. The course also covers algorithm analysis, artificial intelligence, computer communications, software engineering, compilers, programming language design, operating systems, databases and computer graphics. The use of open source applications is strongly encouraged

  • within the department with a lab dedicated to Linux-enabled computers.

    There is a severe shortage of computer specialists worldwide creating excellent opportunities for graduates in computer science. Opportunities exist throughout the world, in different domains ranging from desktop applications, gaming and distributed computing to specialized applications in the field of consumer electronics, automobiles, and medicine. Curtin graduates are employed as specialists in industry, research organizations and government departments.

    The course requires that applicants should have completed secondary school studies in physics and mathematics.

  • Applicants with a diploma in Computer Science or equivalent may be granted exemption from taking certain units of the course.

  • Duration and Availability

    The course is three years full-time study. Two intakes are offered each year in Feb and August.
