Examination Regulations
The University recognises the value of examinations as part of a flexible teaching and learning process. Accordingly, the University has devised the following regulations in order to ensure that formal examinations are an effective and efficient means of assessing
students, as well as maximising the use of University resources in the assessment process.
The following is an abbreviated version of the Examinations Policy. For further information on the Examinations Policy, please contact the Examinations Office.
1. Organisation of Examinations
Examination Days
The Academic Calendar comprises two 14 week semesters of 12 teaching weeks, two one-week periods free from class contact
and finally a two-week examination period.
During the two-week examination period, Saturdays may be used if necessary.
Students shall not be required to take more than two examinations per day.
Duration of Examinations
Examinations do not normally exceed two hours. In the minority of cases that they do, the relevant School has demonstrated to the
University that it is necessary to do so.
Reading Time
There is a mandatory ten-minute reading time for each examination, which does not count as part of the duration of the exam. A two-hour examination will consist of ten minutes reading time followed by two hours duration.
Venue
Examinations will be conducted in suitable venues, in terms of size, temperature, lighting and noise levels.
Examination Aids
The use of any examination aids (for example calculators) will be noted on the examination paper, as advised by the examiner setting the paper.
Examination Scripts
Students have the right to view their examination scripts, providing a formal request is made in writing to the School within 20 working
days of the publication of results.
Provisions for Students with Disabilities or Medical Conditions
The University can make appropriate arrangements for students with disabilities or medical conditions. For more information, see Equity Examinations.
