Withdrawals and Additions

The student is responsible to ensure that his or her enrolment is correct. Withdrawal from units, altering courses or majors will have consequences on fees and/or academic records if not lodged before the final dates for amendments. To amend your enrolment,

you need to fill in the Amendment Form. It is important that students seek academic counselling where appropriate.

Students who wish to enrol for more than 100 credits in a semester will require prior approval from their Head of Department or Course Coordinator. Enrolling in more than 100 credits per semester is generally not encouraged.

Important!

Students may add units up till the first week of semester and withdraw from units up till the census date (please check the Academic Calendar). Any late request will be subjected to late fee penalty/fee liabilities.

Withdrawal from Unit

i) Special Semesters

Withdrawal dates (without liability) from units that are different from the standard semester structure (e.g. summer school,

trimester units, research periods etc) are based on:

- the date on which the student begins to undertake the course, if the course is less than six weeks in duration,
- fourteen days after the date on which the student begins to undertake the course, if the course is six weeks or more in duration.

ii) Special Late Withdrawals (SLW)

A special late withdrawal will only be accepted under special circumstances which are beyond the control of the student and

which has seriously disrupted the students' study program. Failure to complete study requirements will not be considered

as sufficient grounds for late withdrawal. The Special Late Withdrawal period applies between:

Semester One - 1 May to the Friday before the commencement of the Semester 1 examination period

Semester Two - 1 October to the Friday before the commencement of the Semester 2 examination period

If a student successfully applies for a Special Late Withdrawal a grade of WD (withdrawn) will appear on the student semester's

Statement of Results and the student will be charged accordingly for the unit.

Total Withdrawal from a Course

If a student wishes to withdraw from Curtin, it is advisable to seek counselling from the Director of School, Head of Department,

Course Coordinator, or the Academic Registrar before lodging a Withdrawal Form at the Office of the Registrar.

Students MUST lodge a Withdrawal Form to officially withdraw from a course. In accordance to Malaysian Immigration Act

1963 13(4)(b), international students are required to cancel Student Pass visa prior to leaving the University.

Important!

As a student at Curtin, you need to be aware that there are established deadlines for enrolment (including re-enrolment), for adding or withdrawing from units and for a range of other administrative actions.

Meeting a deadline means you have submitted the appropriate form with all essential parts completed (including any that require signatures) by 5.00 pm on the due date.

If you do not meet a specified deadline, do not expect your request to be accepted. In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to accept a request after the deadline subject to a late fee penalty.

Information on key dates including deadlines can be referred to in the Academic Calendar.
