Over 400 to graduate from Curtin Sarawak’s diploma, degree programmes on 28 April
Miri – 23 April 2012 – Over 400 students will graduate from Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) this 28 April 2012. They will comprise 390 degree students, including 24 postgraduate students, and 55 diploma students.
This year will see a change in the format for graduations at Curtin Sarawak. Instead of a single graduation ceremony for all degree programmes, there will be separate ceremonies for business and engineering and science programmes. There will furthermore not be a separate ceremony for diploma courses, which will be incorporated into the School of Business’ graduation ceremony. This will align Curtin Sarawak’s graduation ceremonies with Curtin University’s in Perth and enhance the synergy between the mother campus and its largest international campus.
The School of Business and Diploma Graduation Ceremony will see 210 students graduating from the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce programmes, 14 from the Graduate Diploma in Project Management, Master of Business Administration, Master of Finance, Master of Marketing and Master of Science (Project Management) programmes. Meanwhile, the 55 diploma students will graduate from the Diploma of Business and Diploma of Process Plant Technology courses.
156 students will graduate from the School of Engineering and Science’s Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Technology programmes, as well as 10 from its Master of Philosophy, Master of Technology and Doctor of Philosophy programmes.
Both ceremonies will be held in the university’s Recreation and Event Centre.
Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan Hong Nam, former Deputy Chief Minister and chairman of the Curtin Sarawak Campus Council, will officiate at all the events. Assistant Minister of Sports and Assistant Minister of Communication Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who is also the chairman of Curtin Sarawak’s Management Board, will also be present, along with Curtin Sarawak Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Ian Kerr; Chairman of Curtin (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., Datu Dr. Hatta Solhi; members of Curtin Sarawak Campus Council and Management Board, as well as a delegation from Curtin University in Perth headed by Acting Chancellor Chris Bennett and Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket.
There will also be an Award and Scholarship Ceremony at the Miri Marriott Resort & Spa in the evening of 27 April and a Curtin Alumni Dinner at the Eastwood Valley Golf & Country Club in the evening of 28 April.
