70 Curtin Alumni members celebrates Australia Day for the first time

Monday, 28 January 2008 - Curtin Alumni recently celebrated Australia Day to
commemorate the country's national day with an Aussie Style BBQ by the poolside of
Grand Palace Hotel.
Approximately 70 members turned up for the celebration and received a door gift of
an Australian footy that was sent from the Curtin Bentley campus.
"This is the first Australia Day celebration celebrated throughout different parts
of Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and other regions of South East Asia
for the Curtin Alumni and we are proud to be part of it," said Mr. Ernest Goh,
President of Curtin Alumni East Malaysian Chapter.
The commemorative event officiated by Yang Berhormat Dr. Lee Kim Shin, Assistant Minister
of Infrastructure and Communication, Sarawak and Chairman, Management Board,
Curtin Sarawak Malaysia said that he is happy to see the Curtin Alumni growing with more
members each year and hope to see more members in the future events.
Over the years, Australia has grown to involve more and more celebration of cultural
diversity acknowledging that the make up the nation today and the nation's development
is also part of the contributions of migrants and the Australian indigenous people.
Harmony Day is another yearly celebration that is celebrated throughout the nation to
celebrate its cultural diversity and reconciling with the Australian indigenous people,
the original custodians of the land, towards building a unique identity for Australia.
