Curtin University Sarawak Campus introduces new courses

MIRI, Monday, 10 October 2005 - In line with emerging market trends and
strong demand for graduates in the field of Life and Earth Sciences, Curtin University of Technology
Sarawak (Curtin Sarawak Malaysia) will be offering three new undergraduate degree courses, namely,
Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology, Geophysics and Life Sciences beginning in 2006.
Professor Graham Lodwick, Pro Vice-Chancellor & Chief Executive, Curtin Sarawak Malaysia said,
"The career opportunities from these newly introduced Earth Science courses are wide, with employment
in various oil, mineral, petroleum and groundwater exploration industries and environmental geology
contractors who operate internationally".
"The degree offered in Life Science is a pre-clinical generic medical science degree where students
who graduate from these programmes are eligible to compete for entry into a graduate medical school
at selected Australian universities. Those who meet the performance pre-requisites are also considered
for entry into the Bachelor of Pharmacy and other Health Science programmes at our Curtin Perth campus
in Australia, following successful completion of their 1st year," he added.
Established in February 1999 in partnership with the Sarawak Government, Curtin Sarawak Malaysia is
the first offshore campus of Curtin University of Technology, Western Australia and also the first
foreign university campus to be set up in East Malaysia.
Curtin Sarawak Malaysia, a world-class facility campus in a garden was completed in 2002. Located in
the modern resort city of Miri, it is sited on a 4,000 acre land, built at a cost of RM400 million,
is architecturally designed and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities incorporating
sophisticated superior information technology linkages with easy access to the resources of Curtin,
Western Australia.
Located 3km from the main campus, Curtin Village, an exclusive custom-designed student accommodation
with 24-hour security service was built complete with wireless network service.
