REQUIREMENTS for the satisfactory completion of FOLT 2010 ***
To satisfactorily complete Foundations of Learning and Teaching (8 modules), you must:
1. Conduct a Critical Incident Analysis (CIA) of a teaching and learning event and submit a short essay (500 – 750 words) based on the description and analysis of your Critical Incident. See separate guidelines (p. 4) for details. It is suggested you undertake the CIA early in your teaching but after completing some of the FOLT modules. Submit by email.
2. Engage in a Peer Observation of Teaching Partnership including being observed while teaching and observing the teaching of your partner. You need to submit (include in your Teaching Portfolio) evidence of the written feedback (both ways) and reflections on the feedback you have received. Choose from the templates distributed in Module 5 or use some similar format for recording feedback.
3. Start a Teaching Portfolio. (You are strongly encouraged to use the iPortfolio.) Follow the Guidelines provided in Module 5 and structure the portfolio under the following headings (or similar).
• Teaching philosophy
• Teaching record
• Leadership and innovation in teaching and learning
• Scholarly teaching practice
• Teaching effectiveness
• Scholarship of teaching and learning (including recognition and awards)
• Professional development (including a plan)
• Final reflection
Everyone should be able to include description, reflection and evidence in all sections with the exception of Leadership and Innovation in Teaching and Learning and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
Write a reflective narrative describing how you have achieved the learning outcomes for Modules 1- 8 plus a statement about your future plans for teaching and learning development. (1200 - 1500 words).
The reflective essay should be submitted by 11 June 2010.
