The Department of Science and Mathematics, Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak, Malaysia is honoured to bring to your attention that the 1st Symposia on Geology (SG1) will be held on 5th September, 2009.
The theme for this year’s Symposia is “Oil, Gas, Coal and CO2 sequestration”
The theme of this year is production of hydrocarbons in the context of the environment, in particular the need to reconcile economic prerogatives with the needs of a future world. 20 years from now, unmanaged release of CO2 will be unthinkable – be it for oil, gas, or even more so for coal. Fortunately Sarawak is in the enviable position of turning a problem into an opportunity – blessed with large, but rapidly declining gas fields, there is a huge potential for CO2 sequestration in those aging fields. Since oil, gas and coal will run out one day, CO2 sequestration might be the business of the future.
Being this symposium’s vision, presentations and posters will deal with solutions of continuing to produce hydrocarbons, whilst being environmentally responsible. And, moving on from there, how existing infrastructure can be used for CO2 sequestration in depleted gas fields.
This Symposium provides a platform for technology transfer. Plenary paper by experts in the field of geology and energy resources will be presented on 5th September 2009.
The Symposia Organizing Committee would to take this opportunity to request your esteemed company to be the official co-sponsor to the Symposia. We also would like to request active participation by having your delegates and speakers attending the various sessions and for you to take up an exhibition booth to enhance our Symposia further during this event. Kindly review our Sponsorship Opportunities attached.
In the event you may require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.
On behalf of the Symposia Organizing Committee, I would like to thank you for your kind consideration and looking forward to hearing from you soon.
