The aim of the Curtin Sarawak Collaborative Research (CSCR) scheme is to facilitate attaining the university R&D strategic plan objectives of Building Research Capability and Building Reputation for Quality Research.
The CSCR scheme promotes research clusters and inter-disciplinary/collaborative research in the university through research grants to collaborative research proposals.
- Nature of research proposal

- The total direct cost of project as detailed in the research proposal should be usually in the range of RM 30,000 to RM 50,000.

- Proposals with total direct cost much higher than RM 50,000 should clearly identify the tasks to be completed and the expected outcomes for a maximum funding of RM 50,000.

- It is expected that where a proposal has total direct cost much higher than RM 50,000 the Project Leader would submit the proposal also to external funding agencies to secure additional funds.

- The maximum duration of a project is 2 years.
Procedure of awards decision

- Research proposals should be submitted in prescribed format.

- The research proposals should comply with the University ethics requirements.

- The proposals should be submitted to the R&D office through the Head of respective schools.

- The Award Committee will be constituted by Pro Vice Chancellor, Curtin Sarawak. The external review will be arranged by the R&D office.

- The applicants may be required to present the proposals to the Award Committee or to any other forum.

- The Award Committee will decide on the amount and distribution of funding, revisions and resubmission of research proposals and on any other related matter.

- The Award Committee may decide not to recommend any grant if no award quality proposals are received.

- The decision of the Award Committee is final.
- Applicants should be full-time confirmed academic staff of Curtin Sarawak, Malaysia.

- Co-investigators can be researchers from outside Curtin Sarawak Malaysia also.

- Research proposals should be from the members of School research clusters or from a group of interdisciplinary researchers within and/or across the Schools.

- Each research proposal should have at least three Curtin Sarawak academic staff as team members.

- At least two of the Curtin Sarawak team members should have good experience in conducting research.

- Project Leaders of ongoing projects should submit half-yearly progress report and financial report to the R&D office regularly.

- Project Leaders should submit the final report within 3 months upon completion of the project.

- Conference related expenses should not to exceed 10% of the award value.

- An individual can submit only one application as Project Leader.

- A Project Leader of an on-going research project funded under the CSCR scheme is not eligible to submit another application.

- If a Project Leader of an on-going research project leaves Curtin Sarawak, the succession as the new Project Leader will be in the order of the co-investigators indicated in the research proposal unless an alternative arrangement is agreed to by the entire research team.

- All team members of a research project are expected to have a clear understanding of their respective roles, responsibilities and sharing of benefits/outcome of the research project.

- It is expected that all research proposals will promote the involvement of undergraduate students in the research project.

- The grant money will be placed in a cost centre at Curtin Sarawak, which can be used only for purposes identified in the research project, with due approval from the R&D office. The cost centre can be operated only by the Project Leader.

- Applicants are responsible for complying with all instructions and for submitting 3 hard copies of all submissions including the application and other supporting evidences in a sealed envelope. A soft copy of the application in a CD should also be submitted.

- The envelope should be superscribed with the name of the Project Leader, designation, name of the school and signature. No details of the research project should be written on the envelope.

- Complete applications should be submitted to the R&D office, before the specified deadline (to be announced). Late submissions will not be accepted.

Applications should be submitted to Jenny Teoh, R&D Office, before 5 p.m. on Monday, 1 September 2008.
- Submit 3 hard copies of all submissions including the application and other supporting evidences and a soft copy of the application in a CD, in a sealed envelope.

- Superscribe the envelope with the name of the Project Leader, designation, name of the school and signature. Do not write the details of the research project on the envelope.

- Submit a copy of the first page of the application separately for office record.
